Platform Beds

Platform Beds

Your sleep matters, because it affects the way you function throughout the day. So having a bed at home that culls you to sleep is quite important for most people, especially since about one-third of their days will be spent in bed. Obviously, comfort is a must, but one must also take in the aesthetic quality of the bed as it complements the room. If the bed itself doesn’t seem to fit within the style of the room or just doesn’t have a certain appeal, then it could be potentially difficult to settle into a deep sleep.

There are a lot of types of beds to consider. You can choose between mattress/box spring combos, fold-up beds and even waterbeds, which are surprisingly still in stores. However, there is a certain functionality to a platform bed that the others can’t quite match up to. A platform bed has a built-in slat support system or a solid panel foundation. This design allows a platform bed to better support a mattress without the need of an extra foundational unit, such as a box spring. In other words, you have one less cumbersome item to take home with you and extra cash in your pocket.

Stylistically, platform beds have a range of styles to choose from. There’s the NORA platform bed, which has feminine lines and is perfect for adding a touch of romance within the bedroom. There’s also the Calligaris Dixie bed that mixes a touch of modern with the warmth of a wood frame. Overall, platform beds allow for a sleeker look as they have a lower profile and generally add a splash of modern taste to any room. They also have the added benefit of providing extra storage and creating a sense of openness, as most slat systems do not extend to the floor.
